Inspired by her Study Abroad experience through Berea College, Student Holly Hudson `23 designed these bags to celebrate the diversity of learning that happens when travelling. The exterior of the bag is handwoven on a digitally assisted dobby loom using a complex weave structure that evokes the waves Holly saw as she was crossing the ocean by plane. The hand painted yarn evokes colors of land, sea, and sky. Each handle was handmade in collaboration with our Woodcraft studio using laminated layers of cherry and walnut wood to strengthen the delicate form. Many of the wide variety of techniques using to create this bag were new to Holly, and just like our Study Abroad program, offered the joyous opportunity to explore new horizons.
