Join the members of the Wharton Esherick Museum as we trek up to the Michener Museum in Doylestown for a curator-led tour of Judith Schaechter’s stained glass dome, Super/Natural. Like Wharton Esherick’s Home and Studio, Philadelphia-based artist Schaechter’s immensely rich stained glass dome represents an example of biophilia, the deeply-rooted tendency of humans to connect with nature. Wharton Esherick’s Home and Studio is considered an historic example of biophilic architecture—one that continues to affect our wellbeing today as we’re wrapped in natural wooden textures and surfaces. Schaechter’s exploration of biophilia, Super/Natural, was created during a residency at the Penn Center for Neuroaesthetics and reflects the study of biophilic design and its impact on human consciousness.

The visit will begin at 10:30am with a tour of Schaechter’s Super/Natural dome led by Laura Igoe, Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest Chief Curator, and Assistant Curator, Abi Lua. The guided tour will run roughly one hour. Participants are welcome to enjoy the Museum’s cafe and explore the Michener after the program concludes.
