Pennsylvania Modern: Studio Talk and Rarely Seen Collections Exploration

Join us on Sunday, March 15th from 10:30 to 11:45 AM to explore WEMโs Spring Exhibition Pennsylvania Modern: Regionalism and the Wharton Esherick Studio with a specialty talk involving a walk in and around the original portion of Wharton Esherickโs 1926 Studio led by WEMโs associate curator Holly Gore along with a look at rarely seen objects presented in the 1956 Workshop.ย During the Studio talk, weโll highlight Esherickโs Studio as a celebration of local architecture and modernism on its 100th anniversary. The talk will be focused on the original 1926 portion and take a deep dive into the artistโs exploration of local materials, modern and traditional architecture, and his collaborations with neighboring tradespeople.ย
The program takes place in two half-hour sections. After a welcome and introduction to the site, half of the participants will begin their experience with a tour of the 1926 Studio and the other with rarely seen objects in the 1956 Workshop before swapping at 11:15 AM. Participants are welcome to arrive a little early or linger after the program to view the related exhibition, Pennsylvania Modern, on view in the Visitor Center.
Note: this tour involves the Main Gallery of the 1926 Studio and does not include the dining room/kitchen or bedroom.
