Glass Painting in the Workshop

Saturday August 29, 2026
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Wharton Esherick Museum - A man works in a workshop beside a glass painting with an eye drawn on it, shown in a close-up.

Join us on Saturday, August 29th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM for a glass painting workshop led by artist and teacher Mark Kobasz in the 1956 Workshop. Alongside his work in wood featured in WEMโ€™s 32nd Annual Juried Woodworking Exhibition, Mark also maintains a practice in painting on glassโ€”a method Esherick experimented with at the family farmhouse in an early effort to blend art and life. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create a design, paint on glass panels, jars, and other materials, and take their piece home to be fired in the oven! Participants will also have the opportunity to see an example of Esherickโ€™s work in painted glassโ€“a decorated windowpane from the family farmhouse Sunekrest.ย

Materials will be provided by WEM. However, if participants have a beloved Mason jar, vase, or other piece of glassware, they are more than welcome to bring it along for decoration. Participants of all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome!
