Book Arts in the Workshop: The Art of Tunnel Books

Join us on Saturday, May 2nd for a book arts workshop led by Philadelphia-based artist, illustrator, and long-time Esherick follower Hannah Moog from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the 1956 Workshop. In celebration of WEM’s 18th annual Imprint exhibition, this workshop explores the art of tunnel books—an accordion-like book structure dating back to the 18th century that expands to create depth and perspective. During this workshop, participants will learn how to plan, pattern, and structure tunnel books, as well as construct their own maquettes!
Book Arts in the Workshop highlights the relationship between Esherick’s hand-bound, printed, and lettered books made as prototypes for Philadelphia’s independent publisher Centaur Press and his larger practice as an artist in three-dimensions. Selections from WEM’s book collection will be on view during this workshop.
Materials will be provided by WEM. Participants of all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome!
