A Winter Solstice Crystal Tones Sound Meditation in Wharton Esherick’s Studio

Join us to mark the winter solstice with a sound meditation inside Wharton Esherick’s 1926 Studio with Anne Johnson of Lotus Spiral Sound on Sunday, December 21st from 10:00-11:15AM. Each year the Wharton Esherick Museum marks the solstice with programming aimed at reorienting us to ourselves, one another, and the world around us. On the darkest day of the year we invite you to grab a cushion and take a seat in Wharton’s Studio to experience this meditative sound stream of crystal singing bowl vibrations as it resonates throughout the building for a morning of tranquility, connection, and centeredness. 

Guests are welcome to pick their favorite spot in the 1926 Studio to sit or lie down for the duration of the sound bath. Chairs and stools will be provided to participants who are unable to sit on the floor for a long period of time. At the end of the sound meditation, participants are welcome to share their reflections, observations, and experiences. 

Anne Johnson creates sound meditations in Philadelphia and the surrounding area, including at St. Paul’s Labyrinth Sanctuary, Chestnut Hill Meeting House’s James Turrell Skyspace, Unitarian Universalist of Mt. Airy, Beaumont at Bryn Mawr, and Springfield Township Library. Johnson is also a certified instructor in the Alexander Technique. She has taught this mind/body practice across the country and internationally in places including the Boyer College of Music, Swarthmore College, the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, the architectural firm of VSBA, and the Mt. Airy Learning Tree.
