Docent Application
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Wharton Esherick Museum! Docents are volunteer tour guides who connect museum visitors with the singular creative vision of Wharton Esherick, an artistic polymath who is best known as an early innovator of American studio furniture. Docents undergo specialized training to learn about Esherick’s artistic legacy, as well as the networks of people and ideas with which he interacted during his fascinating life.
Everyone is encouraged to apply. If you have not already, read more about our docent program here.
Things to note before you apply:
Successful docents have a passion for the Museum and enjoy sharing that with people of all backgrounds. Prior teaching experience and knowledge of art history is helpful but not required. Applicants should be comfortable with public speaking. Becoming a docent requires a commitment of time and effort to learn the tour materials and build confidence toward leading successful tours. We, therefore, ask new docents to make a two-year commitment to the Museum. During this time, they undergo a 12 to 16-week training program and are prepared to give approximately two tours per month during the Museum’s tour season, March through December.
Please complete the application below, attach a resume (optional), and submit. We will reach out to you soon if we are able to place you in our program.
